Did anyone see Eurovision 2006 in Athens over the weekend?
A Finish band dressed as Lord of the Rings characters won it with a heavy metal song. This was a shock for me, even though it is hard to be shocked by Eurovision these days.

I really liked the Romanian, Swedish and Bosnian songs.
One thing that annoys me about the song contest is that it has always been so political. Every country votes for its neighbours/friends. I think they should come up with a better system.
While this is one of the tackiest talent quests in the world, it is entertaining to watch and the European women are gorgeous!
Every now and again you get some amazing talent like Celine Dion come through Eurovision.

For me it was a major surprise. I really didn't expect for Lordi to win. They certainly were the strangest "thing" that happened to Eurovision till now. I reckon that their success had a lot to do with the ones that loathe this contest... It probably was some sort of a manifest against the (sometimes) questionable quality of Eurovision's songs.
