Indian Arrival Day was declared a holiday in Trinidad & Tobago as a remembrance of those who traveled across the ocean as indentured laborers from India. There is celebration in the form of small parades, dance, music, etc. About 50% of the population's ancestors are from India, so the tie is strong.

It commemorates the arrival of the first Indentured labourers from India to Trinidad, on May 30 1845, on the ship Fath Al Razak (Victory to Allah the Sustainer- it is commonly called Fatel Razack). It was first celebrated in Skinner Park, San Fernando, as the East Indian Centenary on May 30, 1945(1) which marked the hundredth anniversary of the coming of Indians to Trinidad. A massive gathering of Indians highlighted the pride Indians felt for their accomplishments in the colony, which was recorded in the publication the East Indian Centenary Review.
It sounds like it has only recently become a national holiday but has been celebrated by the locals for many years. Source

Indian Arrival, like Corpus Christi and Baptist Liberation are not occasions that I celebrate. I'm not 'into' any holiday that my children are not interested in or for which there is not any immediate significance to their lives. Most times holidays just get in the way of productivity and this country has way too many of them.
