Radu Mihaileanu
Director Mihaileanu in film retrospective
With already three full-length feature films, Romanian born director Radu Mihaileanu is one of Europe's leading filmmakers. The French Institute prepares for one week a retrospective of the director's work Radu Mihaileanu was born in Bucharest, in 1958, into a Yiddish-speaking Jewish family. His father, Mordechaï Buchman, was a Communist and a journalist. When he returned from the Nazi labour camps, he changed his name to Ion Mihaileanu, which could not sound more Rumanian.

Anyone realize that he was an assistant director in the movie "View to a Kill" in nineteen eighty-five. I vaguely remember hearing that back in school, but didn't put it together until reading this thread. The rest of his movies, at least the ones he directed himself, are not in english, but are available with subtitles. He has either directed or been the assistant director in eight films.
