The claim by the airport is that safety requirement are adequate without air traffic control, but it seems to me that this is a disaster waiting to happen.

Comments: Three people already died near Taupo Airport because there was a lack of proper controlled approach! That could have easily have been prevented if there was a control tower. Also we are talking about 11 chartered flights everyday not even Dunedin has that much.
