Comments: Speaking as a cement/stone mason with over 20 years experience, I can tell you that carpentry is simply part of the job.
For instance, to make an arch out of stone, you must first make a form out of wood to support it until you install the capstone. You can only remove the wooden forms after the capstone is installed. Otherwise the entire thing would collapse.
When a mason pours a concrete slab he must first frame it with wood. You can't take the wooden forms off until the concrete sets. More carpentry.
In order construct a strong wooden or steel building you must first build a foundation out of masonry.
Masons must necessarily be skilled in carpentry.
My guess is that He was probably was skilled in both carpentry and masonry. But that is just speculation. I think it would be fair to just say He was in the construction business and leave it at that.

Comments: In Mark 6:3 the Greek word that gives us "carpenter". The Louw-Nida Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament gives the following definition: "one who uses various materials (wood, stone, and metal) in building-"builder, carpenter." "isn't he the carpenter's son?" Mt 13.55. There is every reason to believe that in biblical times one who was regarded as would be skilled in the use of wood and stone and possibly even metal."
Jesus could very well have worked in wood, stone, and metal. If you've ever been to the Holy Land you will notice that there are hardly any trees.
