Bessendar Introduction

Hello, my name is Bessendar. Well actually that isn't my real name but it is the name of one of my favorite characters. I've been playing D&D (and other role playing games) since 1979 when I bought my first Player's Handbook.

Since about 2000, work and family life required a bit more time. However, lately I've been really wanting to do some gaming again. I received the new Player's Handbook (3.5 edition) for Christmas last year and I've played a few times this year but nothing too consistent since work and family rear their heads (especially since I have a kid). I am hoping that I can join this group and do some gaming a little bit each day rather than the old weekend marathons--not that I don't enjoy those marathons but I just can't do those as easily with a wife and kid.

As far as gaming in a fantasy setting is concerned, I tend to like playing wee-folk I.e. dwarves and gnomes and my professions are normally fighters, thieves (excuse me, rogues), and illusionists. In addition to D&D I've also played Vampire, Conspiracy X, and Call of Cthulhu. The feature liked most about CoC is the idea of sanity points and have applied the concept to my everyday life.

I work for a county college so work isn't too stressful--other than the fact that I'm not paid too well. However, I do get a large amount of time off so that is a plus.

I like reading sci-fi & fantasy. My favorite authors are George R.R. Martin, Robert Jordan and H.P. Lovecraft. In college, I wrote my thesis on Batman. I'm sure this has worked against me in my professional career.
