GCSE Examinations UK

In the Uk, pupils take GCSE examinations at age 15/16 in their last year of compulsory education, which is also known as year 11.

GCSE stands for General certificate of secondary education.

Normally around 8 GCSE's are the average that are taken, less can be taken if a pupil is struggling, or more can be taken if pupils are excelling in further subjects.
The grades are graded from A-E with exceptions being made for excelling work, and for this you will receive A* (A star) U is unclassified meaning a fail.
A-E is classed as a pass, although if you got D or E, they are classed as low passes and most employers don't want to take people on with 'low' results.

So basically A-C passes are classed as 'higher passes'.

After you have taken these exams, you are free to leave school, and either go on to do further education, which is voluntary,or get a paid job.The years of compulsory education are now over when you get to this stage.

My eldest Son took these examinations last year, and found it very helpful to record his voice reading aloud the course work.
He played them late at night as he went to sleep, and by the morning, he had 'it in his mind' and could remember most of the work.

I have found that there are a ton of sites to help you prepare for nearly any tests in the UK just as easily as in the US.

https://www.educational-software-directory....reparation.html

Even yahoo has some great resources.

GCSE's are easy as long as you know what you are doing (although when I was doing them I didnt think that). In private and grammar schools pupils are spoonfed important exam tips whereas in comprehensives students are on their own. A few things to remember:

1. Buy loads and loads of past papers and mark schemes. They are all available at exam boards websites eg. WJEC, Edexcel etc etc.
2. Pester your teachers during exam leave they know a thing or two especially if they are experienced.
3. The revision guides are a must to get.
4. Coursework are the easiest marks to get make sure you get all of them.
5. Universities actually center applications more on GCSE results than AS levels so these are perhaps the most important exams in your life!
