This might actually be true! While the true meaning of vigilance is to be aware of your surroundings, the subliminal meaning is be mindful so you don't get blindsided. The crude way of saying this might well be depicted in the picture above.

The meanings are similar. The only difference that I can think of is a very subtle message of selfishness that 'Watch Your donkey' suggests, perhaps at the expense of someone elses well-being. 'Be Vigilant' could include more than just the one.
