Napoleon Bonaparte

The greatest French Emperor that ever lived and yet he died in desolation on an island, how great the rise and the fall of this one man that shaped history.

Napoleon Bonaparte was received his military education at Brienne and entered the army in 1785. He was a Jacobin, distinguished himself as a captain of artillery at the seige of Toulon in 1793. He was discraced and briefly emprisoned after the Thermidor. He put down the Vendemiarie uprising in 1795, and was pardoned at Barras in 1796 by the commander of the army of Italy following a lightning victory over the Peimontias and Austrians. (Le Tambour d'Arcole, Cadenet) From this brilliant victory, he created the Cisalpine Republic and imposed peace with the Campo-Formio treaty of 18 Oct 1797.

Bonaparte Napoleon

Like other world tyrants in history it seems that Napoleon could not give up the pride and power hunger within - this beast always rares its' head at some point or the other and eventually brings you to your knees.

Napoleon Bonaparte History & Civil Business Politics

Well he was smart, ambitious, but I don't like him. After all he invaded Portugal 3 times just because we didn't stop the english to trade with us in our cities near sea.
It was a brigth tactic to try to destroy the English by destroing their trading.
Well he tried to make us follow his plan, but with England's help the Portuguese defeated them.

The bad thing is that they looted our country and took much of our art and richness to France (thief's cry.gif ).

Bonaparte Napoleon

Napoleon was the greatest leader of his time, yes. However with power comes pride and sometimes arrogance, which can sometimes change a person for the worst. In this world, people tend to shun those who show great potential for doing huge things in this world. Napoleon was banished to the island, Jesus was hung at the cross for helping people and it was just because the Romans feared he would lead a rebellion against them, Martin Luther King Jr. was shot because he was fighting for African-american freedom of rights. People fear change, and hopefully someday we will learn to overcome that.

Bonaparte Napoleon

Napoloen was a great leader who was playing chess with the human mind for power. He realized the potential power from the mob violence and consolidated it by winning big battles for the name of "liberty, equality, and fraternity". At least, that's what the ordinary French citizen thought. Then the citizen thought, this must be a great guy. So they gave him power and gradually he increased his power untill he became a totalitarian leader.

Everyone should the read the book Napoleon: Bungling to Glory. I don't remember the author (the book is at home whilst I am somewhere else) and I can't seem to find it on google, but it's a book that basically says Napoleon made many huge errors and were successful because of the talent around him. Through analysis of several huge victories such as Jena-Auerstadt, Austerlitz, and Marengo, the author argued that in each of these battles, Napoleon made initial strategic and tactical errors that gave the Allies an early advantage. However, Napoleon was always saved by one of his more able generals and marshals such as Davout, Desaix, Lannes, and Murat.

As his key leaders began to die or defected (I.e. Bernadotte), Napoleon began depending more on marshals such as Ney, who was unreliable and hasty to act, and Grouchy, who cost him Waterloo IMO, to experience less success on the battlefield.
