Why do people buy something just because it is made by a specific company?

Better Products Brand Are

I would say, that people buy brand names, because of the good reputation that the big brands have built up, but in some cases, the brand name companies also supply the same foods to other less well known companies, so regardless of how much you pay for the item, you might find that you are still consuming the same food product. This isn't always the case though, and personal preference also has a big part in this too.

Clothing etc, in my opinion, is more of a status thing, as some people don't like to be seen in 'cheaper' brands of clothing.

I guess in the end it boils down to either personal choice or status.

I agree with dianec most brand names sell the same stuff at a lower price and the only difference is the names. I don't think a brand name makes the clothes, the person in them does.

Better Products Brand Are

Usually name brand products are better but not always. The one thing I would say that makes named brand products better is the after purchase support you get. For instance if its not working then you can get it replaced with no problems.

It depends on what your buying. IF it a washer or dryer I tend to go for the more name brand items as I trust their warranties better. If it is a toaster or a blender I go with the cheapest as it does not really matter that much who made it.

Yes I tend to look at the consumers guides and ask about for big ticket items. But small stuff under 30 just cheap and looks built half decent.
