Autism & Poor Memory

Autism & Poor Memory

Yesterday, Felipe and I were attending a meeting in a reverent atmosphere. We were sitting on padded benches that moved if one of the people sitting on it moved. Felipe was nervously moving his leg a lot causing the whole bench to vibrate. I would point this out to Felipe and he would stop. Literally, 30 seconds after he would start his leg movements again and of course I pointed that out to him and he stopped. 30 seconds after he started up again. This went on for awhile and he never did stop so I gave up because he just could not 'remember' that he should not do that. This is a small example of memory problems in Autism. My other son, Jonah, will be six this year and still cannot join two words together. Words that were taught to him today or a week ago cannot be remembered and he struggles immensely to communicate what he wants or feels.
