Survivor Good I Am

I question that anyone really knows how good they are a survivor until they are in that situation. You can have allot of knowledge about surviving but if you do not have the mental fortitude to hold up under stressful conditions then you will not be able to survive. All the knowledge in the world won't help you be able to mentally hold it together and pull yourself through. Knowledge is only part of the equation.

And to be blunt, no one really knows how they will respond to any given situation until they are in it. I never knew how I would respond to a gun being held to my head until it happened. I was surprisingly calm, and I would not have guessed that. One truly cannot say how one would handle a life or death survival situation until they were put into that situation to survive.

Besides knowledge, I believe good survivor skills depend a lot on our ability to stay calm and focused under extreme pressure. As konquererz said, we can't know how we will react to certain situations until they occur. It's also important to be flexible, that is to be able to make instant decisions based on immediate circumstances.

Offtopic but,
Konquererz, you had a gun held to your head? Wow, that's really scary!

I believe survival has much more to do with attitude than skill.

The answer to this may be actually quite simple... you know if you are a good survivor because you survive! Of course I can go more in depth than that, but therein starts the foundation.

I would be a good survivor because I would survive. If anyone was with me they would survive too. I am sure they would learn a lot with me as I would teach them how to help us survive. When we get rescued or find our way back to civilization they will have a much better outlook on how to survive.

Am I Good Survivor

Frankly I don't know.

I know a number of things that would be useful in various survival situations. But most of them are theoretical only, I've never put them to the test in a real situation. Nor has my life been seriously threatened in the past.

I think it is critical to just never give up. Some people resign themselves to their fate while others just keep fighting. I remember a guy that had his at trapped under a boulder out hiking by himself. He realized that no help was coming. A lot of people would have died there but he cut his own arm off to escape.
