What are your thoughts about the Drug known as RISPERDAL?

Some studies have found it to have very damaging side effects.

Several doctors say is actually the mildest anti-psychotic in the market today. I would not agree with such statement. The list of side effects are long, one of them even creating tumors. How can a drug that may cause cancer and diabetes can be considered safe? I understand the need for certain meds like this one but only in EXTREME cases and situations.

Actually I was reading a medical study of this kid taking the med. The doctors noted vomiting, nauseas, ticks on his face, legs and upper body, convulsions, and even problems with blood pressure yet they said at the end of the study that despite these effects the drug was safe for use.

Side effects of this drug:

nausea
anxiety
dizziness
insomnia
low blood pressure
muscle stiffness
muscle pain
sedation
tremors
increased salivation and weight gain (it is not uncommon for patients
taking risperdal over long periods to gain upwards of 50 pounds or even
more).
breast tenderness and eventually lactation in both genders may occur.
Risperdal can trigger diabetes and more serious conditions of glucose
metabolism, including ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar coma.
liver dysfunction
seizures
heart palpitations
tachycardia
diabetes
witching
kicking
jerking
Amenorrhea
TUMORS in the PITUATARY gland. This may recur EVEN if the patient has switched to a different antipsychotic.

I hadn't heard of this drug before, but looking at the list of side affects, I think you would have to weigh up very carefully the absolute need for this drug, versus how ill the person could become just by taking this medication.

I must say that I find these side affects frightening, and some of them are terminal, surely the manufacturers should be holding this one back from the market while they try to find a better alternative?

Just my opinion, but I don't think after reading these side affects, that I could allow myself to give this to anybody.
