Hawaii Climate Change
Discussion about Climate Change in Hawaii. How has global Climate Change affected Hawaii?
Are there many Environmentalist in Hawaii actively protesting abuse of the Environment, Hawaii Global Warming, etc.? What is the influence of Hawaii Climate Change on the country? Who are the most known Hawaii Environmentalist?
Snow in Hawai'i: What does the future hold?
Researchers, led by climate modelers, used satellite images to quantify recent snow cover distributions patterns on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, Hawai'i. They developed a regional climate model to simulate the present-day snowfalls and then to project future Hawaiian snowfalls. Their results indicate that the two volcano summits are typically snow-covered at least 20 days each winter, but that the snow cover will nearly disappear by the end of the century. Ref. Source 8a.
Losing the snow on the volcanoes is a minor consequence of climate change. The effect I worry about for Hawaii is the rise of the oceans. What is going to happen as the oceans rise to those place near sea level, like Pearl Harbor and the lower portions of Honolulu?
With the pacific ocean being a bigger body of water and the fact it sits higher than the Atlantic Ocean with is smaller I think we will see much more significant sea level rise in the gulf and Atlantic side of the USA than on the pacific side. With the world warming up we will see many changes in the coming years but exactly what I am not totally sure or sold on. I do know wee will see the coast line of Antarctica soon.
Hawai'i land impacted by sea level rise may be double previous estimates. By including models of dynamical physical processes such as erosion and wave run-up, a team of researchers has determined that land area in Hawai'i vulnerable to future sea level rise may be double previous estimates.
