Canada Climate Change
Discussion about Climate Change in Canada. How has global Climate Change affected Canada?
Are there many Environmentalist in Canada actively protesting abuse of the Environment, Canada Global Warming, etc.? What is the influence of Canada Climate Change on the country? Who are the most known Canada Environmentalist?
Western Canada Glaciers In Danger Of Shrinking By 70 Percent By 2100: Study:
Glaciers in western Canada could shrink by as much as 70 percent by the year 2100 due to the effects of global climate change, according to a new study. These glaciers cover more than 10,300 square miles, roughly the size of the state of Vermont. Ref. Source 3
I know that the north is warming and causing major issues for our polar bears and more are found with starving cubs. I personally fear that large water sheds like the Fraser river and the many crystal clear trout lakes in the mountains will slowly disappear with the melting of the mountainous glaciers.
Canadian forests a refuge as warming creeps north
Boreal forests in far-northern latitudes may one day act as a climate refuge for black spruce, the foundational tree for the northwoods ecosystem -- a major source of the world's paper; home to caribou, snowshoe hare, lynx, and sable; and nesting site for dozens of migratory bird species, say researchers. Climate-driven permafrost thaw
In bitter cold regions like northwestern Canada, permafrost has preserved relict ground-ice and vast glacial sedimentary stores in a quasi-stable state. These landscapes therefore retain a high potential for climate-driven transformation, say researchers. Ref. Source 3h.
1C rise in atmospheric temperature causes rapid changes to world's largest High Arctic lake. An interdisciplinary team of scientists examining everything from glaciology to freshwater ecology discovered drastic changes over the past decade to the world's largest High Arctic lake. And from glacial melt to the declining lake ice to changes in lake ecology, the results from Lake Hazen on Ellesmere Island in Canada are alarming. Source 8k.
Climate change in Quebec equals a much greater diversity of species??? A team of researchers believe that, paradoxically, climate change may result in Quebec's national and provincial parks becoming biodiversity refuges of continental importance as the variety of species present there increases. They calculated potential changes in the presence of 529 species in about one third of the protected areas in southern Quebec. Their results suggest that fifty -- eighty years from now (Between 2071-2100) close to half of the protected regions of southern Quebec may see a species turnover of greater than 80 %. Source 7n.
Yukon warmest it has been in 13,600 years. A study uses new research techniques to reveal alarming information about climate change in Canada's north. A study confirms that recent climate warming in the central Yukon region has surpassed the warmest temperatures experienced in the previous 13,600 years, a finding that could have important implications in the context of current global warming trends.
