Money talks when trying to influence climate change legislation. Climate lobbying is big business. A new analysis shows that between 2000 and 2016, lobbyists spent more than two billion dollars on influencing relevant legislation in the US Congress. Unsurprisingly, sectors that could be negatively affected by bills limiting carbon emissions, such as the electrical utilities sector, fossil fuel companies and transportation corporations had the deepest pockets. Air pollutants from US forest soils will increase with climate change. Scientists predict that certain regions of the United States will experience higher levels of pollutants that cause smog, acid rain and respiratory problems due changes in forest soils from climate change. Source 4k.
North American cold-climate forests are already absorbing less carbon, study shows. Trees are one of humans' biggest allies in the fight against climate change, soaking up around 30% of the carbon we pump into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuel. Source 8w.
Coastal Northeastern US is a global warming hotspot; 2 degrees Celsius of summer warming has already occurred. New research reveals not only that the coastal Northeast -- from Maine to Delaware -- is heating faster than most regions of North America, but that this heating is linked to drastic alterations in the ocean and atmospheric conditions over the North Atlantic. Climate change: Supreme Court rules EPA lacks authority to regulate power plant emissions. Nineteen Republican-led states, including West Virginia, had appealed in a years-long dispute over rules issued by the environmental agency that go back to the Obama administration. The closely watched ruling comes amid increasingly dire warnings about the impacts of climate change. Source 5c.
Not sure if any of these have been linked, yet there has been numerous warnings by world scientists over the years involving climate change.
