Temples

Hi, how can I recognize a LDS temple and how it stands out from other buildings?

Temples

There is no single attribute that each of the temples has on the exterior, that will make it different than other buildings. Most, if not all, have statues of Moroni on a steeple, but that is the only possible attribute.

The best thing is to find pictures of all of them on the internet, and become familiar with each.

Having said that, I think that each of them have the words, House of the Lord or Holiness to the Lord over the main door. (I can't remember the exact words.)

In 1964 there were 13 temples. This number does not include the Kirkland Temple(no longer owned by the Church) or the Nauvoo Temple(destroyed), 4 of which are outside of the US: Alberta Canada, Bern Switzerland, Hamilton New Zealand and London England.

From 1972 to date, 116 more temples have been built, for a total of 119. There are 10 temples that have been announced or under construction:

Temples

I here about people who can and can't enter the Temple. Is the temple something separate from where everyone one meets, or are there separated parts to the temple that have restrictions on who can and can't enter like the original temple that Solomon built?

Temples

The entire Temple is restricted to those worthy members of the Church who have met certain requirements. The Temple is not a place for normal worship services, but is rather a place where we go to make special, eternal covenants with God.

The grounds around the Temples are normally beautiful and extremely well kept. Anyone is welcome to visit them. This would be similar to the "court" around the Temple in Jerusalem. We do still try to keep the grounds and surrounding areas reverent and peaceful.
