
I wouldn't be so quick to see who can leverage this situation. I am sure in most of the western worlds history that Russia can find something similar to point at. The US has given way too many weapons out to "Friends" To not have had a problem of some sorts...fast and furious seems like something they could point at...I would.
I have a sneaking suspicion that all similar missiles have been removed from the area or at minimum that there has to be a Kremlin (Sorry...I meant Moscow) approval to let one off the leash and high up approval at that.

President Obama said today the burden is on Russia to ensure that separatists stop tampering with evidence at the crash site in eastern Ukraine.
If Russia continues to back the separatists, costs to Russia will only continue to increase, Obama said. Now is the time for Russian President Vladimir Putin to "Pivot away" From his strategy in Ukraine, he said.

Rebels to hand over MH17 black boxes to Malaysia; bodies en route to Amsterdam
Russia-backed rebels agreed to turn over black boxes to a Malaysian team already in Ukraine. Meanwhile, a refrigerated rail car filled with the bodies of 282 victims of the downed Malaysia airliner left for the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv Monday en route to Amsterdam only hours after Dutch investigators were finally allowed to inspect them. A refrigerated train carrying the remains of many of the victims from the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash arrived in Kharkiv, Ukraine, a CNN team on the ground said.
The train is continuing to an undisclosed location having changed its front carriage. Ref. CNN
The U.N. Security Council voted to adopt a resolution demanding full access to the Flight 17 crash site in Ukraine and condemning the downing of the plane.
The resolution won unanimous approval from the 15-member council, which includes Russia. It did not specify who was responsible for the crash.
Meanwhile, a CNN/ORC International poll indicated that nearly nine in 10 Americans surveyed said that Moscow and pro-Russian separatists would try to cover something up in any international investigation of the crash. Just 19% in the survey held a favorable opinion of Russia, down from 41% in February. Ref. CNN
