Open Or Closed Minded - Page 2

Your experience is similar to what I had before opening up the Mature section. Then after reading, study, Discussion and of course prayer I realize what I was so sure about is not so sure at all. This has left me in a state of neutrality with many of the more 'hard to believe' ideas / theories rather than canceling it altogether.

I find myself a mixed bag.

I study other religions out of curiosity, and listen to people like John Hagee for interesting insight into doctrines of the evangelical Christian Churches. I believe some truth can be found religious teachings of other faiths
I am somewhat orthodox however in my own interpretation of my own Church, in that I believe that the current Church is headed in the right direction. I am convinced in my own mind that the Church leadership (as a whole) cannot apostatize, so one could say that I am a little closed minded on any arguments that put forth the doctrine that the leadership could lead the Church down the wrong path. This may be a naive outlook on the Church, but I put a lot of faith in authority as it is found in the modern prophet and apostles. This does not mean that I reject arguments put forth, I just do not internalized them as easily as I would some other arguments. In this you could say I have a closed minded streak. But I also enjoy discussing doctrines of the church and peoples differing views on them.

I am just curious: Are there things in our religion that we should not have an opened mind about? Should there be things that we hold inviolate?

I believe there is nothing wrong with view point. I follow the 'upper leaders' mostly and then take a grain of salt when it comes to local leadership for obvious reasons that you may have read in this Board. I also do think the Church is heading generally in the right direction, but I think it is not about where the Authority is taking us really, because we already have enough information to condemn ourselves regardless to what the Brethren do.

All things I would say. We may think what we Discuss here as shocking or eye openers, but we may be more surprised if we were given the full leg of lamb. Being a zealot in the Church does no one any good, more especially self. I have often found closed minded Members very hard to steer... they worry so much on correctness that they often miss the mark. I could give hundreds of instances where the Spirit of the Law is forgotten.
