The Cruise business is booming. American families are lining up right and left to embark on these enormous boats that resemble something close to a floating city. They've got movie theaters, spas, tennis, swimming pools, gambling and banquet table after banquet table of gourmet food. Not to mention games, child care and endless fun for the kids. You pick the ocean. They're all over the world. But now crime is following the crowds onoard. And strong regulations to fend off that crime are not in place. There were hearings on Capitol Hill today to figure out what can be done. ABC's Laura Marquez has the story.

I couldn't access the link to this, but found this to be frightening to think that crime even follows people on these luxurious cruise ships.
You don't really think about things like this happening on these cruises, mainly due to the price ticket that goes with your place aboard the cruise!
I would have imagined the people on these cruises to be too 'well heeled' to lower themselves to crime, but having said that, due to the nature of the cruise business, you do have a 'captive audience' of a full ship of people with money, so I guess it only takes one rogue to get on board and rifle through, the ticket I guess after theft would sadly pay for itself (Or at the expense of the victims..I should say).

Crime is everywhere, and it doesn't surprise me that it's on cruise ships. Tourists have been the targets of crime for centuries!

My question is, if you're robbed on a ship like this, does it make much difference? I thought all your meals and entertainment are paid for with your ticket. I suppose port shopping and excursions might be curtailed. Interesting to find out how the ship authorities deal with the crime.

Rather off topic, but...
My mom recently mentioned she would never go on a cruise because she might want to come home before it's over. I have a bigger issue with the Lysteria outbreaks, personally.
