Disco Flashing Lights
What is the reason for flashing lights in some dance halls?
I think that I am right in saying that the flashing lights in discos were brought out in 1978, when disco dancing first became popular. I believe the reason for this was that disco dancing at the time was seen as something completely new and revolutionary. At the time, most dance halls used to have large silver mosaic mirror ball/lights, which passed down through the years from ballroom dance.
As disco was supposed to be completely different, the disco lights were introduced, to 'have the edge', and also at the time, most disco dance beats, beat in time to the flashing of the lights, the disco lights have just remained in some clubs because it's a more modern alternative to having the ballroom mirror lights on.
I think another reason for them could be to sort of "camouflage" the fact that some people (like me) do not know how to dance very good. Yes, I'm really bad, but get some strobing, flashing, swirling lighting going on and I'm shaking it just like JLo!
