Have you or someone you know ever done Canoeing as a sport?

My eldest Son and also my husband are canoe instructors, they belong to the British canoe union, and spend their spare time teaching teenagers how to canoe on the lakes, reservoirs,canals and sea.
They prefer to canoe on the sea, but have to spend most of their time teaching on canals, as this is the safer option for teaching beginners.
My husband also uses his canoe to go fishing on, and finds this method very productive.
