US carries out first federal execution in 17 years after Supreme Court clears the way. After the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way in a 5-4 decision, Daniel Lewis Lee was executed Tuesday morning by lethal injection at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana. Lee, the first federal inmate to be executed since 2003, was pronounced dead at 8:07 a.m. His last words: "You're killing an innocent man." Ref. USAToday.
