Odd Family Meals

When I was growing up, my mother was very "culturally challenged" (no offense Mom!) and her version of tacos was a little different.

She would put no seasoning in the hamburger but salt and pepper. Then it was pretty much like a regular taco with the cheese and lettuce and tomato, but instead of salsa she would put a little worchestershire sauce and brown sugar in ketchup, and that's what we'd have on them. So they were kind of like cheeseburger tacos.

To this day, that's how I prefer my tacos. Just like Mom made 'em! But I do like enchiladas and other Mexican food to be more traditional, with the spicy chilies and shredded meat.

Did your family, or you, have any odd ways of preparing meals?

My mom must have felt like she was cooking for an army. There were six of us and even the girls could compete with the boys for an appetite. She had a very limited budget, and would always try to stretch the food by adding powered milk to regular milk, too much milk to scrambled eggs, too much mayo to tuna, etc. I feel bad for her now, but at the time the only thing we kids could do was complain. We never refused to eat anything, though. I remember steak night being a hamburger patty and a bite of steak from mom or dads plate.

My Husband recently was telling me, that family members who don't have Celiacs disease, normally find it hard finding something to feed him, as he does have Celiac disease.
He normally ends up with a salad!

Recently though, a family member came up with the idea of--

tuna and mayonnaise mixed with salted roasted peanuts, layed on a bowl of salad!

My first reaction was eurgh, how horrible, but my Hubby insisted that the combination was one of the best he'd ever had, and insisted I try it, which I did, and I have to say that although it sounds really odd, the taste is really good!
