An Amtrak train that derailed south of Seattle Monday and killed at least three people was going more than 80 mph moments before it entered a curve where the recommended speed tops out at 30 mph, authorities confirmed. The speed around the corner is likely to be a key point for federal accident investigators, who are trying to determine how the train - on its inaugural run - flew off the rails, causing several rail cars to plunge from an overpass and onto a traffic-clogged interstate.
