The 'ripeness' sticker
A University of Arizona professor has invented a sticker that can tell consumers if a fruit or vegetable is ripe. The stickers will be available to growers next year and should make their way to supermarkets within two to three years, said Mark Riley, a UA assistant professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering.

I think that some people will appreciate this much more than others. most fresh packed items have a 'best before' sticker on them, but I don't always trust them, I would far rather trust my own instinct on whether something is still fresh or not.
Only time will tell whether fruit stickers will work out well or not. I hope it does work out for them, because they have worked really hard at inventing something that has no other comparison available on the market.
I think this is a great idea, particularly for elderly people who sometimes lose their sense of smell as they age.
Currently, our supermarket has several varieties of fruits and vegetables that have stickers saying "Ripe!" - but these are put on the item before they ever get shipped out, meaning they have no actual use other than a sales pitch.
I'm amazed at the latest technological advances we are experiencing these days!
