I agree there is a difference between voluntary ignorance and involuntary. If you know how to find information but chose not to then you make ignorance an out or an excuse for your laziness. If you did not know such information or law existed due to circumstance in your life then it is the reason and not an excuse.
To me an excuse is a method used for one who refuses to admit there error was their fault.
"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge." -- Charles Darwin (1809-1882) 1871
Most certainly I would agree with this one. After all if you do not really understand the risks you are taking then you see nothing to fear. Like they say a fool goes where a wise man fears to tread.
make you think if you are acting in ignorance and over come great odds are you acting bravely or just foolish. Where as if you knew the risks and still acted from knowing it has to get done can you now be considered brave?

I believe that anyone who goes into a dangerous situation knowing just how dangerous it is could be considered a hero or brave. I believe that anyone going into something while ignorant of the dangers is nothing more than a fool.
Most who act in ignorance and use that as an excuse is not someone I would be looking up to any time soon.
