O Rugged Land Of Gold

O Rugged Land of Gold

Has anyone read this book? I was impressed with the film about the book (Rugged Gold - see review: here) and was wondering if the book told more about Martha's mishaps and blessings?

My wife read this book and another book that is apparently its sequel, Home on the Bear's Domain. That book is also supposedly true. She loved both of them, especially since they are both based on a true story of her life. Both stories are more than entertaining, they are inspirational to know that someone came out of a situation like that with flying colors. I can't imagine what it would be like to be separated like that and have to be all alone and keep pushing forward, never believing you wouldn't see your family again.

Comments: This may no longer be of interest but I am looking for this book for my now adult daughter for personal reasons. It has lived with me since I read it many many years ago... I cannot say why except it contained for me at the time something archetypal and inspiring about a woman's courage and ability to survive and thrive. I wish I could find a copy but it seems elusive to me.. Perhaps like Marthas courage it may be very rare. If you have access to where one may find a copy I would dearly love to know. All the best...

Comments: Re the book, "O Rugged Land of Gold" by Martha Martin

This was one of the most compelling books I have read...yet I think most people would find that an overstatement

Maybe my attraction to "survival" type books makes it more exciting to me?

For some reason though, in reading it I sometimes wondered if the author embellished , just something about the way it read made me wonder how much of it might have been made up to make a "better" read? No proof of that but would like to know what other people thought after reading it? Is there any proof this really happened...maybe it was fiction..It has been a few years since I read it.
