Personally I would like to see "campaigning" reduced to written material with no idea of the "image" of the persons running for office. We should not be electing officials on a "popularity' basis but on ISSUES alone. I do not EVER listen to campaign propaganda (and that is EXACTLY what it ALL is). I wait to the week before elections and contact the League of Women Voters for the voting record of each candidate and vote for the one that most closely has consistently voted on my views. Often I have been left with a "protest" vote for someone who is a definite underdog or I've even written in the name of someone who wasn't running at all whom I thought would be a better candidate for whatever seat I'm voting for. All of this hoopla, baby kissing and hand shaking clouds the issues.

However ultimately I hold the position that if you do NOT vote, for whatever your reason is, you loose the privilege to voice an opinion. The ABSENCE of a vote is still a vote ... for ignorance. There are too many Americans who are content to allow anyone else to do their thinking for them. This is counter productive to the principles upon which this country was founded. The government of America is EVERYONE'S responsibility. That is why the TRUE name of our political system is "democratic Republic". Each and every individual DOES have the power to influence the decision makers BUT you have to open your thoughts TO those representatives and let THEM know what you are thinking.

If you don't want the responsibility of being an American, then go somewhere that the decisions are all made for you, whether or not you like it.

QUOTE
"Heavenly Father, we come before you to ask your forgiveness. We seek your direction and your guidance. We know your word says, "Woe to those who call evil good." But that's what we've done.

Obviously this guy is a Fundamentalist Christian preacher, he would have lost me at "Heavenly Father" in my personal faith structure I do not anthropomorphasize the creative force. It causes less confusion and avoids semantics.

QUOTE
We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism.

in a manner of speaking I agree with him, but there isn't anything wrong with multiculturalism IF one accepts and agrees that there is only one creative force to existence but it goes by many names.

QUOTE
We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle.
I am going to make the assumption that he is referring to the "legalization" of homosexual relationships. This man is misinformed by his reliance on a centuries old book of an obvious truth if there was anything "unnatural" or "ungodly" about homosexuality then why does it exist in about 10% of all mammals? As for other perversity, like child molesting and pornography, last time I checked the laws in my state that was still illegal.

QUOTE
We've exploited the poor and called it a lottery. We've neglected the needy and called it self-preservation. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. In the name of choice, we have killed our unborn. In the name of right to life, we have killed abortionists.

I agree with him except for the blanket statement that everyone on welfare is lazy. There are a lot of good people collecting assistance or food stamps because the Bush administration stole their jobs and there are none to find where they live ... like me.

QUOTE
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it political savvy. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it taxes. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
I don't travel in the politically savvy circles he may have so I have no idea what he's talking about here. In my part of the world (conservative Virginia) we have a moment of silence to start the school day, kids get their butts handed to them when they screw up and their peers are rewarded for turning in kids who endanger themselves and others. Maybe this guy needs to move out of Washington DC and back into the "real world".

QUOTE
Search us, oh, God, and know our hearts today. Try us. Show us any wickedness within us. Cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent here by the people of the State of Kansas, and that they have been ordained by you to govern this great state.

Grant them your wisdom to rule. May their decisions direct us to the center of your will. And, as we continue our prayer and as we come in out of the fog, give us clear minds to accomplish our goals as we begin this Legislature. For we pray in Jesus' name, Amen"

the only argument I have with this part of his prayer is the "deliver us" crap. This is the part of organized Christianity which I argue with. If you read the new testament of the Bible for yourself, free of any one else's prejudice on the subject you will find that Jesus NEVER said God was going to hold your hand and make all the bad things go away. Salvation is offered but YOU have to take it. Forgiveness is given, but YOU have to make restitution and clean up your own act. Organized Christianity as it is preached today uses their god as a scape-goat and they do not preach self reliance and self responsibility which is the core of the faith as laid down by their "leader" Jesus.

Were I to be the person to open that session with a prayer I would not have detailed the "wrongs" only emphasized what needed to be brought to consciousness and I would not have laid it at "god's feet" to get the right thing done. God helps those who help themselves.

What is the matter with Rev. Wright? Now he is attacking the Jews for stopping him from getting to talk with Pres. Obama. He then attacked Pres. Obama saying that he will come back to him after failing office after four years or his two terms. Do you think he is pushing the envelope? How can people see this man as a entity of spirituality?

JB ... I avoid the "news" like it was a plague so I don't know about this statement from Rev. Wright. Would you please post a link? I'm sure I'd have something to say about it.

Rather off topic, but...
The madman who shot and killed a black security guard at the Washington DC Holocost Museum blamed everything on the Jews as well. My heart goes out to the family of the guard he killed but part of me can't be too sad this idiot died of gunshot wounds, himself.

QUOTE
"I am extremely disturbed and deeply saddened that once again my comments as reflected in the June 10, 2009 Daily Press article has resurfaced a divisive debate about my relationship with President Barack Obama. I love President Obama as my son, and support and honor him as the President of the United States America and leader of the free world. I apologize to the Jewish community and all others who were offended by the way in which I framed my comments. I misspoke. I meant no harm or ill-will to the American Jewish community or the Obama Administration. My great respect for the Jewish faith and the foundational (and central) part of my Judeo Christian tradition are unquestionable and I pray that all whom I have hurt accept my sincerest apology."

Comments: It is hard to face the truth and realize we have not just moved away from God, but also from elemental principles of social responsibility and love. We have neglected other people's needs in our ambition to satisfy ours. We have taken away the peace of others in our desire to guarantee our own future. Who give us that right? When violence acts against us, we ask, why do they hate us? Do we believe that by going around the world throwing wars at others we can expect the world to love us? We have put our needs on front of everything and are convinced we have the right to do so....
