Why is it possible to lead a cow upstairs but not downstairs?

Stairs and Cows
Cows cannot go downstairs because their knees do not bend properly to allow for the descending of stairs. The funny thing is that so many people feel like this is not true and thus try to prove it by taking a cow upstairs they cannot get down. I actually found a group of people (real or not) that supposedly help cows get down stairs!
