There is a good reason that I don't care much when a cartel leader is taken down. It doesn't make one lick of difference in the drug trade at all. Drugs will not be harder to get, or more expensive, and people will not suddenly stop taking them. Someone else will step up and take the place created by the downing of a large drug cartel. Its been shown over and over that this is a waste of money. So congrats to the authorities, you didn't capture a drug lord, you created opportunities for some upstart.

Its a great accomplishment for law enforcement but the sad thing about it is there are many others ready to take his place. As I understand it, cartels have their own government system so that when one goes another in 'rank' takes over.
