Israel Invasion of Lebanon

This Thread is to Discuss the recent invasion of Lebanon by Israel on a tactical level and not the morals or ethics of the war which can be found in the Studies of Judaism Board. First of all do you think Israel was spot on in the invasion? Did they fulfill the objective which as we were made to understand was to create a buffer zone between hezbollah and Northern Israel while at the same time flushing out militants?

QUOTE (Yahoo News)
Israeli soldiers returning from the war in Lebanon say the army was slow to rescue wounded comrades and suffered from a lack of supplies so dire that they had to drink water from the canteens of dead Hezbollah guerrillas.

Israel follows a particularly interesting process of war. Israel takes few prisoners and kills everyone in their wake, they exercise total warfare. While the ethics of this can be debated elsewhere, one must fully appreciate that impact that this has on both the opposing country and future opponents.

When you are willing to kill even the women and children in your wake, it strikes fear into other opponents. But further, the US has adopted some of Israels tactics. Long rang explosives are used first and then the ground troops. Many think that this was created before hand, but look at Vietnam and other wars before Israels inception nearly seventy years ago. The long rang missiles and aerial assaults give cover and put the opposing country on the defensive.

Israel Invasion Of Lebanon History & Civil Business Politics

I don't think Israel has any choice but to wage total war. However, they didn't really do that. As much as possible, they only targeted sites where rockets were actually being fired. The really bad thing is that Hezbollah had hidden those rockets within civilian communities, under apartment buildings, beside or within schools, etc.

Israel did not accomplish even one of their stated objectives. Hezbollah won - Israel lost. Hezbollah still has hundreds of rockets and missiles. Now they will have the opportunity to get thousands more from Iran and Syria - again.

Over 60% of Israelis consider this short war a complete loss.
