DVD Burner Not Reading DVD-R
Recently, I have been battling an issue that I have come to realize has nothing to do with hardware, but software. I took out a DVD Burner and replaced it with a new one because it was giving trouble to read my files, BUT the new one was giving the same problem.
My resolve was to try the original burner in another machine and it worked! So now I have to find out what is stopping my DVD Burner from being able to read files from DVD-Rs.
Anyone ever had a similar problem?
Are you sure that your burner can read DVD -R's? I have a +R burner but can read -R discs. Most of the time though, all if not some of the -R discs are either unreadable or corrupt. I think it has to do with the type of burner. I have a drive that is supposed to be able to read both and burn to +R. I don't have trouble with the +R discs though since that is native to the burner. I would start by making sure that you can read -R discs, not all burners can.
On another Thread I said that when I reinstalled XP (not with SP2) and got an update that corrected a known issue in XP that conflicted with recordable drives then everything cleared.
Both DVD drives I have a multi so they can both read and write +/- which is safe is you change machines. I have learned the hard way that is always good to have two different brand of burners on hand for testing though or you may end up throwing good DVD-Rs for no reason.
