I think this is a great break through. I hope that this can help a lot of fathers actually become dads. I know there are a lot of nice people who can not have kids because of sperm count. If this can help them then it is worth it.

If they can create sperm in a dish, some women may just forgo the whole mating process altogether.

As modern medicine continues to advance I can see a future of humans who are engineered to be a more perfect human. I can see scientist engineering us to be more disease resistant. Would that cause illnesses to disappear.

I think that when you do this it'll only take one disease to get through our immune system to wipe all of us out. This will really hurt our genetic abilities since our forte is in our dynamic differences in our genes to help us fight off these diseases. On another front, it isn't good to try to take the place of God. With this they could make clones which is exactly what is condemned religiously. If we try to make a sort of super race we're going to see that we're going to "draft" them in to the military and they won't like not having the same rights as us.

I personally doubt that. I tend not to go for anything artificial entering my body and wouldn't like to tell my child that they came from a dish and their father is some scientist.
