Hydrogenated Oils
Hydrogenated Oils are a product of taking natural oils and then heating them to very high temperatures and then adding a catalytic effect using a metal to give it more density. Basically any food with Hydrogenated or partially Hydrogenated Oil is like eating plastic (Literally). This is why it is poison because it enters your blood stream and the body treats it as a poison because it cannot be utilized so it instead clogs your arteries and eventually leads you to the path of heart disease! What is worst is if you look at the labels of most of the foods you buy from the grocery / supermarket you will see that is made with Hydrogenated Oil or partially Hydrogenated Oil. Hydrogenated Oil is like a preservative and that is why it is used in so many things it is also cheaper than giving you natural oils which may turn rancid quickly. What are your thoughts about this?

My understanding is they take the natural oil of palm, corn and so forth and force hydrogen gas into it at very high pressure to cause a catalytic affect. They do this to preserve the oil because natural oil turns rancid quickly. Actually, that is the key to know what is healthy or not because usually healthy foods spoil quickly in their natural state where as unhealthy food have been chemically altered to last long on super market shelves. The 'metal' is an actual metal such as nickel, platinum or even aluminum that alters the molecular state of the natural oil to one that can last for a long time or in other words - plastic. You are literally eating plastic when you eat hydrogenated oil - what's worst is it is very hard for the body to get rid of it because of its artificial structure.
It is to some degree but people have a preference of taste over health and because hydrogenated oil is in 90% of the packaged foods you buy its likely that if they were to do something about it they would have to give up almost all the foods they love. Therefore, like alcohol, tobacco, drugs and other addictive substances hydrogenated oil has its place but the damage is more subtle and you only know it when you awake on a hospital bed - if you wake at all.
I do believe this was the answer to natural fats that create bad cholesterol such as butter. So many still buy margarine that are made from it thinking it is a healthier choice so for me I eat real butter in moderation and try to stay away from hydrogenated oils as much as possible. In cooking I am getting more used to using veggie broth to baste in lieu of oils of any sort.
Does any one know if this has been linked to Alzheimers? After all aluminium has been so why not this also.
This is linked to a host of diseases with heart disease being the primary cause of a hydrogenated diet. Secondary is joint and organ troubles. Now considering the molecular composition and the influence on the body as an artificial substance who knows the immediate / long term effect on the mind.
FDA will require food companies to phase out trans fats
Food and Drug Administration announces it has made a final determination that partially hydrogenated oils used to make trans fats cannot be classified as "Generally recognized as safe" And that food companies must phase out their use almost entirely. Scientists say trans fats, which are used to improve food texture, shelf life or flavor, can raise levels of "Bad" Cholesterol and lower "Good" Cholesterol, increasing the risk of heart disease. Ref.
