Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs extradited to Texas

In Texas, Jeffs faces charges of bigamy, aggravated s-xual assault and assault charges for incidents involving underage girls at the Fundamentalist LDS Church's YFZ Ranch near Eldorado. The charges stem from information gleaned from church and family records seized during a raid in April 2008. Ref. Source 1

Jeffs Warren

It seems like Jeffs is having a hard time finding a lawyer that suits his needs. Just mere hours after hiring a new attorney, he decided to fire him.

international QUOTE
SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) -- Polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs fired his attorney Wednesday just hours after hiring him, prompting a West Texas judge to delay a trial on s-xual assault charges after Jeffs said he would need more time to find a lawyer who "suits my needs."

Gerry Morris, a prominent Austin-based lawyer, told district court Judge Barbara Walther during a morning pretrial hearing that he would represent Jeffs as long as a trial on s-xual assault charges set to begin Jan. 21 was pushed back to give him time to prepare.

But in a subsequent late-afternoon hearing, Morris said Jeffs had "discharged" him. He did not elaborate and said after the hearing that he could not comment.

Jeffs, the ecclesiastical head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is accused of aggravated s-xual assault, s-xual assault and bigamy. Prosecutors say Jeffs had sex with two children, one under age 14 and the other under age 17, and re-arraigned Jeffs during the earlier hearing so that all counts of s-xual assault could be heard in a single trial -- with a separate trial to be held in the bigamy case

After Morris said he would not represent Jeffs, Walther turned to the defendant and said "Mr. Jeffs, what do you propose to do?"

After a long pause, state prosecutor Eric Nichols stood up and said Jeffs was using an apparent "strategy for more time" but that he had been unwilling even to sign a waiver that would have allowed prosecutors to delay the start of his first trial...

Warren Jeffs Beliefs Religious General

Interesting news.

Warren Jeffs is resuming control of the FLDS Church and he has launched an extensive purging within the organization.

international QUOTE
According to a document filed with the Utah Division of Corporations and Commercial Code, Wendell Nielsen, 70, resigned as president of the Fundamentalist LDS Church on Jan. 28.

In a separate document filed on Feb. 15, Jeffs said he had "been called and sustained as the president" of the Utah-based church, "and by virtue of such calling I am the corporation sole of the Corporation of the President of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, organized under the laws of the state of Utah."

Nielsen, who has long been a senior leader in the church's hierarchy, was named president of the church in January of 2010. At the time, attorney Rod Parker said the paperwork making Nielsen the president was a legal formality that clarified he had the authority to make decisions related to church business and legal dealings.

Jeffs resigned as president of the church corporation on Dec. 4, 2007, about a week after he was sentenced by a Utah judge after being convicted of r-pe as an accomplice - a conviction that the Utah Supreme Court has since overturned. By then, Jeffs had been incarcerated for more than a year awaiting trial. Documents and videotapes released as part of his court proceedings showed he had overseen church dealings from behind bars.

And although church members have not specified his role in the church since then, there have been many indications that he was always still considered to be the church's spiritual leader or prophet.

Switching leaders of the FLDS corporation is just one of many changes reportedly happening within the polygamous community. People familiar with the situation in the FLDS towns of Colorado City, Ariz., and Hildale, Utah, say Jeffs has ousted between 30 to 35 male church members. Those ousted allegedly include several key figures in the church presidency such as Willie Jessop, who has acted as a spokesman for the FLDS Church since the raid on the YFZ Ranch in Eldorado, Texas, in 2008; Merrill Jessop, head of the YFZ Ranch; and Joe Nielsen, according to sources familiar with the situation. Jeffs Denied Again

SAN ANTONIO - A visiting judge on Tuesday denied polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs' second attempt to remove the West Texas judge overseeing his upcoming s-xual assault trial, this time because of alleged bias after she made calls to inquire about progress in the case and accepted extra police protection because of threats associated with it. Jeffs Warren

More than 100 would-be jurors already decided on Warren Jeffs

Those who said they had already formed an opinion about Jeffs were excused hours later, as were 19 others who said they couldn't punish someone convicted of s-xual assault of a child with the minimum prison sentence of five years, nor consider probation.

In Texas, juries are responsible for setting the penalty for those they convict. Ref. Source 4

Warren Jeffs

This is where religion gets nasty especially when they claim divinity in it:

international QUOTE
Once the jury had headphones and started listening to a recording, Jeffs repeatedly objected, interrupting the recording many times. On the tape, Jeffs' voice drones on for well over two hours, using Biblical language and sometimes speaking in the voice of God, counseling a number of his plural wives to perform what he calls the "ordinance of heavenly comfort."

He promises they will feel the all-consuming fire of heaven, and by giving comfort to their husband, they will be touching God. Ref. Source 8

If that doesn't nail Warren Jeffs I don't know what will but that is not all... This is all seen as a really 'spiritual' event:

international QUOTE
It all ends with prayers and supposed revelations from God, and Jeffs himself singing a hymn.

Jeffs was charged with s-xual assault on a child after a 2008 raid on a ranch near Eldorado, Texas, operated by his church.

Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, represented himself in the trial, which started last week. He also faces one count of bigamy, and is expected to be tried on that charge later. Ref. CNN

international QUOTE
Warren Jeffs, the leader of a polygamy sect, was sentenced to life in prison for assault of young followers he took as brides, the Associated Press reports.

It took the jury only 30 minutes to decide this one. Good to see that justice prevails and these religious madmen stop their nonsense on innocent children.
