Can you imagine in a situation like that? You heard your neighbor molested your kid...what do you do? Look at what this guy did:

Jonathon Edington, is accused of stabbing neighbor Barry James to death on Monday after his wife told him that James had inappropriate contact with the child. "The daughter gave the mother information which was alarming and disturbing. The mom relayed it to her husband. I can't for the life of me fathom out why a Solicitor who is trained to defend criminals should just 'jump in' and take on himself that his neighbor is guilty, and murder him before the claims of molestation have even been investigated.
Surely in his line of work he is trained under the ethics of "innocent, until proven guilty?".. and not vice versa?
Imagine if his neighbor was completely innocent, and the rumor was completely unsubstantiated and malicious, you can't ever bring back the life of this man.

The thing is that he was not. He exposed himself naked and they saw him through the window. Nobody did anything about it.

I'm still not quite sure whether it was his role to play though. It sickens me to the stomach child molesters, and believe me, through looking after children and babies for social services, I have met quite a few...I certainly wouldn't let them come round to my house, but surely a citizens arrest may have been a first option..It's a tough call, I know, and I'm not categorizing anyone,I guess no-one truly knows how they would react until they 'have walked a mile in their shoes'.

Oh I completely agree with you Diane, I am not defending the lawyer's position at all. Actually, I wonder what in the world he was thinking. My point is just that it must have been built up all this time to know that this guy was exposing himself and acting weird based on the neighbor's statements, when he heard through his own wife that the guy molested her two years old daughter, he could not take it anymore!

What a complicated case. First of all, we have the testimony of a 2 years old who gave a couple of statements that may appear as she has been abused by this guy. Then we have the father of the little girl who killed the guy after he find out the guy was interfering with his daughter. Something fishy is going on here. I understand all the feelings of anger and frustration but getting a knife and sneak at your neighbor's home and kill him? Hmmm...a quiet lawyer? Hmmm...it does not make any sense. There is much more on this story that we do not know about.

An update on this case, the lawyer was condemned to 12 years in prison for manslaughter, the abuse was never proved and the wife (who told the husband she suspected the neighbor abused their daughter) was diagnosed by a court psychiatrist with postpartum depression.
