RadioShack Fires 400 Employees by E-Mail
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - RadioShack Corp. notified about 400 workers by e-mail that they were being dismissed immediately as part of planned job cuts.

Employees at the Fort Worth headquarters got messages Tuesday morning saying: "The work force reduction notification is currently in progress. Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated."

Nice way to do it, right? No one's feelings get hurt. Personally, I think it's tacky.

Email Fired

It is very tacky. The coach from our NFL team got fired online a few years ago. He found out in a forum that he had been fired. This ranks right up there though. I can't imagine checking my email to find out that I no longer had a job. It gives me good reason not to check my email when I get up, just in case!

How cowardly (and convenient, I suppose) But I guess there's no laws on how to fire a person. It's just bad etiquette.

I don't shop at Radio Shack much anyway, and now I'm not going to at all.

The thing about this is that the Radio Shack employees had already been told that some very deep cuts were coming, and that the notification would be by email.

Tacky, yes. But expected.

Funny. Knowing that Emails can sometimes be unreliable you would think they would use a more sure method such as an envelope given by a supervisor. In this way, no one can say "I did not know, I did not get an Email".
