Ray - The Movie

Ray is the musical biographical drama of American legend Ray Charles. Born in a poor town in Georgia, Ray Charles went blind at the age of seven shortly after witnessing his younger brother's accidental death. Inspired by a fiercely independent mother who insisted he make his own way in the world, Charles found his calling and his gift behind a piano keyboard. Touring across the Southern musical circuit, the soulful singer gained a reputation and then exploded with worldwide fame when he pioneered incorporating gospel, country, jazz and orchestral influences into his inimitable style. As he revolutionized the way people appreciated music, he simultaneously fought segregation in the very clubs that launched him and championed artists' rights within the corporate music business. "Ray" provides an portrait of Charles' musical genius as he overcomes drug addiction while transforming into one of this country's most beloved performers.

Who is the atcor that is portraiting Ray Charles? Jamie Foxx...yep...the comedian and the experienced movie guys said that he did an amazing job and he may be even nominated for an Oscar.

I've heard great reviews about this movie, and that Jamie Foxx really was amazing in this role. Which is interesting to me, because he's a comedic actor, isn't he? But I also heard that he is a avery gifted piano player, and that this role was just perfect for him.

I can't wait to see it smile.gif

I saw it and Jamie Fox was "spot-on" as Ray Charles. Good story and great music. The movie was definitely entertaining. As for whether or not Fox can take this to the next step, dont know, but he sure nailed this performance.

Just my opinion,

Rate: 3 starorange.gif' />

I just saw this and was impressed with the acting of everyone including my good friend 'Commander lock' from Reloaded who acted just as forthwith as he usually does.

As for the movie itself I really wonder what the focus was: his music, lack of care, womanizing, guilt, addiction or something else? As the movie progressed I actually started to be almost angry that such a man could go around 'making babies' and hurting people - especially his dear wife who had unbelievable patience and his children. It is good that he made a turn around - but that part was very small at the end.

According to IMDB.com there was a goof in the movie, "Anachronisms: At the 1965 Newport Jazz Festival scene, Quincy Jones is wearing "Ray Bans" sunglasses bearing the familiar Ray Bans logo etched in the corner of one of the lenses. Bausch & Lomb did not begin to etch their Ray Bans lenses with the logo until 1990."

I saw this again, or should I say... I am in the process of seeing it now. At half way through the meat of the matter has to be that he overcame all odds, but in the end the movie (from what I remember) almost seems to do a twist to defeatism. I wonder if there was a religious tone to that, maybe because of a lack of acknowledgment of the source of his talent. Or was he merely living in guilt? The acting was great though.
