Tassie Anne Behrens Found Her Children Floating
The mother told detectives she woke up and discovered the children floating in the water. She and a man who lived at the home put the siblings in a black truck with the intention of taking them to a hospital, but they instead stopped at a La Mesa fire station. Ref. Source 4

Rather than a criminal act, this story seems about a mother unable to take care of her children. The lies she told initially to the officers are most probably a way to cover somebody else, hiding their relationship or some minor illegal activities that were going on in the house (consumption of marijuana, for instance). Now, I don't know how it works in the US in these cases: in my country she would have to face a trial for unintentional murder (if a minor is unattended and dies because of an accident, the parents are held responsible).

Grossly irresponsible. Who was watching the kids while she was sleeping? Probably no one and they were so young. She'll probably get manslaughter from negligence. She'll do some time and then get off in a few years if she behaves herself in prison.

So, Fair, you confirmed that in the US works exactly in the same way as in Italy. I already thought it was like this but not sure. Glad to hear she will have to pay for her negligence.

I feel sorry for the mother she will live with the guilt, she lost her children, and she will most likely save a prison sentence. What worst can happen to someone? She will need to be on suicide watch.

That is a tragedy all around. The children suffer the worst since they are dead and died alone, but the mother and grandmother suffer since they have to live with what they did, or did not do. As far as other crimes go, if they were indirectly responsible contributing to the death or unhealthy environment of the deceased, then they should be prosecuted for those crimes as well.
Still, it is a very sad story.
I can't get over the fact that she went to the fire-station instead of call 911 because she was worried her friend would get into trouble for not having a fence around his pool...and how did the kids get outside when she was asleep? Who was supposed to be looking after them? Drownings happens too much, but this was so preventable. Those poor kids.

She really was careless and still trying to protect the friend having her two children dead in the car. Is true that is an all around tragedy but the mother has to face her responsibilities. A desperate person, like she should be, would run to the hospital right away hoping against any logic to save the children.
