I don't know how you can "attune" yourself to have an epic dream. If you are attuning yourself, then you are likely forcing a dream scenario and having a day dream which is influenced by your desire for those dreams. Real dreams are influenced at a sub-conscience level and thus, I believe, cannot be directly attuned to any particular type of dream. You just can't decide what kind of dream to have. I really like epic dreams. I have them allot because I always want to be the hero that saves the day and read allot of fantasy books. I usually read before bed which plants the mindset for the dream. I don't do it purposefully, but it just happens.
Maybe if you read a book like Kon said or watch a movie can help you to have this type of dream but this can also be done with any type of dream. What I like the most about epic dreams are the details, they are so vivid you can bet you never forget them.

Comments: I kind of like epic dreams... But I have them rarely... My last one was about a year, but it was so wonderful... I was with my girlfriend and we were just wandering the town. When I woke up the following morning I actually thought it was real... It kind of confused me.

Comments: I have always had epic dreams. They are absolutely incredible and I can understand why you'd want to have one. I find that I have one almost every time I sleep somewhere unfamiliar. Try it, it might work

Comments: Love epic dreams, had one a few days ago, first one in a while. The whole thing was a huge story though it kept changing from a movie to reality to a game and back. When I had woke up it took me a while to figure what was going on and that it isn't a real story. I tried to re-create it in my mind maybe write it down , but when I tried to think about it it didn't seem as amazing as it was when I dreamed it. I think this is because you are actually more creative when asleep.
