Ntldr Is Missing

NTLDR is missing

Sometimes when performing updates or making changes on your system you may get "NTLDR is missing" at startup. Here is a fix that worked for me:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD, Configure to start via the CD.
2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
6. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "E" or "D" as the case may be. This letter may be different on your computer.

CODE
copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

7. Restart by typing: EXIT

Missing Ntldr

How do you have these problems? I haven't had this issue since I worked with windows NT and Windows Millennium. But its good to know that the same old Windows problems require the same old Windows fix!

This a Windows XP problem and when I install updates it happens depending on the system. I have three systems running XP, they are older model computers so you get different 'answers' for each install. What is more is usually these fixes are already noted on the net because SO MANY people suffer with the same problem.

Missing Ntldr

Thats so odd. I have three machines running windows XP, one is a file server, one is my main machine which is newer, and the other is my work laptop. Is your version of XP Home or Professional? Perhaps its the actual version of XP that this problem is specific to, thus the reason I have never encountered this problem.

Missing Ntldr

I have installed XP about 10 times on varying machines and this only happened on one machine one time, it is not a big deal, but does happen. The XP CD was Professional without any builtin updates. It is when you install SP2 that the error becomes annoying. The fix is handy should anyone encounter it.
