Why do most witches always have a Cauldron, what is it used for?

Most witches don't have a Cauldron, but that is what is disseminated throughout myths and all. Witches are worshipers of nature, they do not necessarily fall under all the brooms, newts, potions and spells.
But in mythology the Cauldron was used to mix large numbers of things in a somewhat liquid form in order to create potions or cast spells, etc.
