Democrat Lincoln Chafee drops out of presidential race

The former Rhode Island governor also served in the U.S. Senate as a Republican. Like his father, Lincoln Chafee was known as one of the more moderate members of the Senate Republican Conference. The year after his defeat in 2006, he left the GOP and ran in 2010 for governor as an independent. In 2013, after having endorsed President Obama in 2008 and 2012, he announced he was joining the Democratic Party. There are three Democrats left in the race for 2016. Ref. USAToday
