Johnsons Howard

I haven't ever really considered Howards Johnsons an eating establishment. In the midwest it is a road side motel. They are cheap and have food available at all hours of the night. It was great when we would take vacations as a family and just needed a few hours to eat, get a little shut eye, and be back on the road. They are affordable, the food is cheap but sufficient, and they are almost all along the highway. In other words, they are convenient.

There actually used to be a lot more of the restaurants without the motels. However, there are now only 3 Howard Johnson's Restaurants in the US. The food there was pretty average at best, but was good enough when you were on the road travelling.

About 30 years ago, they were much more popular. Also, the food was much better back then too!

They were so common and cheaply priced that they became the object of jokes, for a while, anyway. Vincenzo, I had no idea they were now so rare. Interesting.
