Tolkien Introduction

Hello all.
I recently was in a discussion with some our wonderful missionaries when we came to the topic of "deep books". The Elder mentioned a book, called "The Message" written by a man who visited the spirit world, was instructed to write a book about his experiences, and upon hearing of his endeavors, the first presidency requested he not publish the book. Does anyone have any info as to whether or not this is correct, if so where can I find information on the book? The Elder stated his last companion had a copy in manuscript form. Any information would be wonderful.
