I don't think that the Pope should have apologized at all. After all, aren't the Muslims in the news proving the point that violence is a part of their culture and religion? They are rioting and murdering in the "name of Allah." |
POPE SEES SILVER LINING IN FUROR OVER ISLAM QUOTE
Saying he has "deep respect" for Islam, Pope Benedict expressed hope on Wednesday that remarks he made in Germany last week will lead to dialogue among religions. Addressing thousands of Roman Catholics in St. Peter's Square in Rome, he again sought to clarify a speech that sparked anger in much of the Muslim world.

The reaction to the Pope's remarks makes me sad. There are sooo many Muslims out there who are wonderful, peaceful people who just want all this to end, and because of extremists and violent radicals, the words of the Pope are being used to cause violence. I simply do not understand.
I see the Pope's point. I think he knew exactly what he was doing, he wants the debate within Islam to open up so that everyone can be able to express an opinion without a fatwa being issued against them.
I also think that zealous Islamic fundamentalists will use any opportunity to vent anger on anyone who dares to say anything which could be remotely construed as anti-Islamic.
It would be the first time LDS_forever... not a very likely thing to happen, for a Pope to say he was wrong
Did he actually say he was wrong though? I think he apologized, but the apology was more of what I normally use to keep someone quiet... "I'm sorry you feel that way". I do not think he needs to apologize for anything, the man is the Pope, he is entitled to say whatever he feels is best in the interest of his religion, anyone else that does not like it can either choose to be offended or maybe learn something!
