Islam Alcohol

I asked this question to a Muslim that I know, and he said not. He told me at the Eid celebrations, that are celebrated well, fruit juice or Mango Lassi was drunk (yogurt drink)...neither of which contained any alcohol. Obviously I am going by second hand information, but I am presuming it to be correct.
It would be good to have this one answered by someone with first hand information.
