I drink a lot of fluids in a day. But I'm a very active person too. I still think the 8 cups a day guideline is a good idea, even if it's based on only the flimsiest of reasons. Otherwise, people wouldn't drink it at all.
I know I need to drink more water! I drink way less than what I should. I try to keep a water bottle in my sight, because that reminds me to drink it. I tend to have a 'out of sight, out of mind' type of thinking.
