Why is it important from a Philosophical point of view? Where are the limits?

Skepticism

Skepticism is vitally important to philosophy because it is what makes us question the standard or the accepted view. With out it, there would be nothing but debate on interpretation of what the majority believes. If there is no skepticism, there is only faith remaining. Faith has no place in philosophy because it does not involve questioning and discussing alternate possibilities, it involves taking one belief of faith with out trying to understand the possibilities of other thoughts and directions. This is were philosophy differs from religion. Both can discuss the spiritual aspects of life and the after life, both can discuss morality and the root of immorality and indeed, defining the very essence of good and evil. But religion requires an accepted belief in a specific set of rules or deities while philosophists would necessarily question either of these things.
